CANTHACUR AFTER CARE
The Doctor has determined your plantar wart(s) may begin to dissolve using a topical known as canthacur. This agent is used to induce blister formation. Which will hasten the shedding of the wart and trigger your immune response to help your body fight this infection.
After being treated with Canthacur, a non-porous adhesive bandage will be applied to the affected area(s). Be sure to keep the bandage clean, dry and in place for 1-2 days.
A blister may or may not form, and this is considered normal. If the blister is painful you may drain the fluid, but leave the skin intact. At your next appointment the area will be trimmed and reevaluated.
The medication should be washed off the treated area within 4-24 hours. If your skin is fair or large blisters formed at your treatment you should wash the area within 2-4 hrs.
Bathing and swimming is allowed after the medication has been on for the recommended time listed above.
If the patient has a hard time sleeping after the treatment, consider giving a nighttime dose of benadryl (following instructions printed on carton.)
Several treatments of canthacur may be necessary depending on the severity of the wart. Make sure to keep all follow up appointments as too much time between treatments will cause the treatment to become ineffective.
Like any viral condition there may be no guaranteed therapy for the wart(s). The ability to get rid of the wart depends on the response of the patient's immune system. Most children do not develop this ability until teenage years.
